Student-Athlete workouts still on hold due to COVID-19 cases
New Mexico State University will continue to temporarily halt workouts for student-athletes as students await results for COVID-19. This comes after six student athletes and a sports performance trainer tested positive for the virus last week, shutting down the Coca-Cola Weight Training Center on campus.
Since, tests have resulted in 135 negative cases, 20 positive cases. Seven student-athletes are awaiting results. According to a news release, the cases affect multiple sports, and training will resume upon approval from medical personnel.
According to the New Mexico Department of Health data dashboard, Dona Ana recorded 1,211 cases as reported yesterday. The age group 20-29 make up 280 of the recorded cases.
