The Las Cruces Police Department arrested Apolinar Rosales, 18, following a drive-by shooting on Thursday, Sept. 4 at Salopek Park. According to the LCPD,Rosales was charged with voluntary manslaughter, a felony; tampering with evidence, a felony; and resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor.
Around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, near Salopek Boulevard in southwest Las Cruces, shots were fired from an unknown vehicle. When the Las Cruces Police Department arrived at the scene, two people were found injured.
One person was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries believed to not be life-threatening. The other person was airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso after being shot, where police said she died Saturday, Sept. 6.
The LCPD said they believe Rosales is not the only suspect and have stated the case remains under investigation.
“Yes, we believe at least one other individual could be charged in this incident,” Danny Trujillo, LCPD’s public informant officer, wrote. “We will provide an update if and when this happens.”

“We ask the Las Cruces community to report any suspicious activity to police and be able to provide as much of a description on the suspect’s and/or vehicles,” Carrillo wrote.
