Azure Mitchell is a junior at New Mexico State University, pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies with a minor in Creative Writing. Focused on print journalism, she hopes to one day write for a respected publication. This is Azure’s first year with The Round Up.

Growing up, Azure could always be found with a notebook and pencil, writing creative stories. Since she was little, she’s dreamed of being an author. When applying to universities, Azure decided to pursue her aspirations at NMSU. With the help of the journalism program, Azure began her journey as an anchor for NMSU’s KRWG-TV News22 program.

During the summer of 2024, Azure had the pleasure of joining the Hobbs News-Sun in Hobbs, New Mexico as an intern. At her internship, she became an investigative reporter and gained real-world experience to further prepare her for a career in journalism.

Azure’s endless support comes from her family who never doubts her success. She’s grateful for her mother and stepfather for believing in her and pushing her to achieve her goals.

Azure enjoys long evening walks, listening to music, writing in her journal and eating anywhere that has outside seating. You can often find Azure buying another coffee, despite her “initiatives” to save money.
