Brief: Fatal pedestrian crash occurs on University Avenue
A news release from the Las Cruces Police Department disclosed that a woman died after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing University Avenue between I-25 and Triviz Drive Monday, April 13.
The release said the woman, 38, was not in a designated crosswalk and said the accident occurred in a poorly lit area. The woman was transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The driver of the vehicle was an 18-year-old man in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
According to LCPD, “alcohol or excessive speed are not considered to be contributing factors in the crash.” The incident is currently under investigation by LCPD but no charges are expected.
