Chancellor Dan Arvizu sent a memo on Friday, Aug. 6 to all students and families regarding new vaccine protocols for the coming fall 2021 semester.
In the memo, Arvizu wrote that starting Sept. 30, students and faculty will have to choose between presenting a proof of vaccination or conduct weekly COVID-19 tests showing negative results.
“Our top priority is protecting your health and safety – as well as the health and safety of your instructors and the staff who support your educational goals.” Arvizu wrote.
Arvizu also wrote about the danger of the Delta variant, stating that it is spreading quickly in the state of New Mexico. He warned about the possibility of the variant to further evolve.
“The pandemic is not over,” Arvizu wrote. “In order to provide a safer in-person educational environment, we must follow the scientific evidence and the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” He continued.
Details such as how to submit any type of proof are yet to come, and Arvizu urged Aggies to make a choice between vaccination or weekly testing to ensure the safety in all NMSU campuses.
According to Arvizu, there will be a town hall webinar at 3 p.m. on Aug. 10 that will serve to inform the attendees about these new protocols. He encouraged people to attend and submit questions in advance.
