The 69th Senate of the Associated Students of New Mexico State University met on Sept. 18 to pass its second round of reimbursement bills for the fall 2025 semester. During the meeting, there was a strong emphasis on senators contacting more constituents to pick up on passing bills.
Established in the last meeting, this school year’s administration aims to spend more of ASNMSU’s funds than the last. However, this meeting was short, with eight bills during the second reading.
“We have a short agenda, so that’s nice,” Gage Anderson said. “I want [it] to be less short next time. Let’s get some reimbursements going.”
The senate began their mentoring program for new members, expressing hope that the program will lead to more reimbursement bills being made.
According to Vice President Kolby Graham Taylor, the 69th senate consists of around half returning and half new senators.
To help new members understand their responsibilities, the senate will begin its mentor program for the 2025-2026 school year, which pairs new senators with returning ones. These responsibilities include reaching out to constituents and writing reimbursement bills.
The administration also stressed that four seats in the senate are not yet filled. Two senator roles remain vacant for the College of Health, Education & Social Transformation and two remain vacant for the College of Business as of publishing this article.
Anderson ended the meeting by reminding the senators to reach out for candidates to fill those vacant seats.
“Reach out to people,” Anderson said. “We want people to be excited. We want to have a full senate.”
The NMSU Legislative Tracker has yet to be updated for the fall 2025 semester.
