The 69th Senate of the Associated Students of New Mexico State University convened on Nov. 13, where they approved funding bills and resolutions for on-campus groups and clubs.
Bill 227, proposed by Sen. Rima Joukhadar, suggested funding for the New Mexico State University Professional Golf Management (PGM) Championship Team to attend a Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) University Competition.
“This is a great opportunity for our five students to not only network with other students in our program around the country, but play in a high level,” Brent Barker, president of Professional Golf Management Student Association (PGMSA), said. “So this is something that is very important to us as a whole.”
The team recently returned from the 2025 PGA Collegiate Championship in Atlanta, Georgia, where they took seventh place. The bill passed unanimously (24-0).
Sen. Jaden Moore proposed Bill 188, providing funds for NMSU Metals and Jewelry Club to attend New York Jewelry Week from Nov. 17 to the 22.

“New York Jewelry Week is a cultural platform dedicated to the celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and jewelry,” Imperio Hernandez, president of the Metals and Jewelry Club, said. “The event is a hybrid of a lot of different events throughout New York, including conferences, galleries, exhibitions, panels, and more.”
The event would allow the team to attend speeches and interviews from jewelry artists, visit museums, and network. The bill passed (25-0).
The National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Association promotes and supports agricultural education for middle and high schoolers. Bill 262, proposed by Sen. Katelyn Peach, proposed funding for qualifying NMSU students to attend the FFA’s Western National Roundup, where they would compete in different contests such as horse judging, livestock quiz bowl, and consumer decision making.
“[Western National Roundup] is one of the most important competitions for FFA youth,” Alanna de Aguero, a representative for the FFA, said. “…This trip provides a chance to support actions for younger generations.”

The bill would support funding for 38 members to go to Denver, Colorado. It passed (26-0)
Other bills included Bill 258, which was requesting funding for students to attend the Pumpkinman Triathlon. Then, Bill 203 requested funding for students to attend the 2025 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE) Conference. Finally, Bill 183 requested for students to compete in the National Cyber League (NCL) competition, and more.
The senate ended with the passing of the gavel, where graduating senators handed off their role to qualified ASNMSU members. Sen. Kevin Dhanapal, Sen. Benedek Szalai, and Sen. Jaden Moore all passed the gavel to three new senators.
