The New Mexico State University Aggies traveled to Waco, Texas for a three-game series against the Baylor University Bears, Saturday, Feb. 14. Saturday night’s game had plenty of action, rain and an eighth-inning rally from the Aggies that fell short as the Bears triumphed 5-2.
The game started off uneventfully for the Aggies, but the Bears came out swinging for the fences. Baylor scored five early in a rally that included a sacrifice fly from Tyce Armstrong for an RBI and a three-run homer by John Youens. Following that was a solo home run by Brady Janusek.

New Mexico State mounted a comeback attempt in the eighth inning, when the Aggies pushed across both of their runs on the night. Boston Vest singled in an RBI, and Bryce Campbell had an RBI fielder choice. That cut the deficit to 5-2, but they didn’t score again.
Saturday night’s game was part of a three-game series in Waco, in which the Bears swept the Aggies. A major highlight from the series came Friday night, when Armstrong tied an NCAA record by hitting three grand slams in one game. The score Friday night ended 15-2 in favor of the Bears, an impressive offensive showing. Tyce Armstrong of Baylor now is second in the nation in home runs and leads in RBIs.
Sunday finished the series for Baylor with a 7-3 win, completing the sweep. A great way to start the season for the Bears.
The Aggies travel up the road from Waco to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the University of Oklahoma Sooners in a Monday matchup before returning to the Presley Askew Field on Friday, Feb. 20 for a home series against Towson University. The Bears have a midweek matchup with Texas State on Tuesday, Feb. 17, before traveling to compete in the Round Rock Classic against University of Oregon, Purdue University and the University of Southern Mississippi.
