New Mexico State University’s Dancers Unlimited are finding a new rhythm in the world of upcycling fashion.
On Mar. 24, students joined together to host a thrift pop-up along I-Mall in front of Corbett Center with the hopes of raising money to support their organization.
Established in 1985, Dancers Unlimited is NMSU’s student-run dance company that creates and performs choreographies without coaches. They learn various contemporary, jazz, and hip-hop styles throughout the year to perform at their showcases at the end of the semester.
The group frequently hosts fundraisers, where members are required to participate. This pop-up event was compiled of clothing donated by the members and their friends and family to support the club.
“All of us really value thrifting and being able to reuse things,” member Savannah Kimbell said. “I think that really resonated with a lot of our members.”
The club curated a trendy collection of new and vintage clothing, featuring primarily female-oriented apparel of T-shirts, pants, shorts, and dresses. Most items had prices ranging from $1 to $5, an option many students would consider affordable.

“I think it’s a good way for people who are trying to save money to get some new clothes,” member Kayleigh Rush said. “It’s nice to connect with other people too, especially if you’re growing your community.”
All proceeds are reinvested into the organization. The funds help support their show productions and costuming budgets, as well as hosting more fundraising events.
Beyond its role as a fundraiser, the event drew people in with its low prices. As students transitioned between classes along I-Mall, many found themselves at the racks searching for new pieces for the incoming spring weather.
“No thrift stores nowadays are this cheap,” Julissa Daniels said.
The affordability and cute finds created a high-energy environment between Dancers Unlimited and the students passing by. By keeping the prices accessible, the organization not only attracted attention; it built meaningful support to invest in what they believe in.
With a rise in the popularity of thrift pop-ups on campus, there is also a rise in demand. Students are constantly looking for budget-friendly, unique pieces to add to their wardrobe. Searching for those hidden treasures and that perfect item is also thrilling.

The success of the Dancers Unlimited pop-up fuels the creativity that has defined the organization and its members. Every dollar from their sales directly funds an ongoing vision that the dancers lead and work to achieve every day.
“Thrifting has everything you want,” Alyssa Crump said. “The aesthetic is very different than other stores.”
Support from the campus community serves as a foundation for the group’s continue their artistry and passion for dance. As an art form, dance is a reflection of both culture and history. Students and supporters foster this connection and through these fundraisers, they have the opportunity to see the devotion that Dancers Unlimited make to their artistic expression.
