Brief: NMSU Activities Center closed due to health order
The New Mexico State University Activities Center will be closed to students once again following the most recent health order set in place by the State of New Mexico.
The Aquatic Center remains open at 25% capacity for the outdoor facility and can be utilized by making a reservation only.
Anthony McGlone of the NMSU Recreation, Outdoor Recreation and Leadership said the decision to close was last minute.
“We encourage members to continue to make reservations on IMLeagues.com for Aquatic Center access,” McGlone said. “We will notify members as soon as we are permitted indoor recreation, which will be when Dona Ana County reaches the Green Category, under the current guidance from NMDOH.”
Currently, Dona Ana County has a positivity rate of 6.77%, 26 cases per 100,000 residents. The 20-29 age group leads the number of positive cases by a landslide with 4,478 positive cases, according to the NM Department of Health COVID-19 Dashboard.
Currently, Dona Ana is considered a Red County. Gyms and recreational facilities may allow 25% indoor capacity within the “green” category when Dona Ana has “both a new COVID-19 case incidence rate of no greater than 8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants during the most recent two-week period, and an average percent of positive COVID-19 test results over the most recent 14-day period less than or equal to 5%.”
