Las Cruces, NM – The New Mexico State Aggies women’s basketball team (9-19, 5-11 CUSA) took on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (14-15, 8-9 CUSA) in the final home game of the season. The game was one-sided the whole way through, and the Gamecocks won 57-38.
The game had a slow start for both teams. Through the first quarter, the score was only 4-6 in favor of the Gamecocks. Teams were struggling to get anything going on offense, and foul trouble seemed to plague both teams. However, in the second quarter, Jax State came to life with the Aggies following closely most of the way.

The Gamecocks found serious momentum in the second quarter, where a 10-0 run jumped them out to a 47-30 lead going into the fourth. They maintained pace in front of the Aggies through the end of the contest.
For Jax State, Mya Barnes highlighted the offense, with 13 points, followed closely by Adriana Jones with 12. Mya Barnes also had an impressive four blocks on defense. As a team, Jax State had 35 rebounds, shot 38% from the field and 31% from deep. They were efficient at the foul line, shooting 18-20.
The Aggies’ slow offensive performance still saw some impressive standouts. Senoj Jones scored 12 points, and the team had 36 rebounds. They shot 29% from the field, and 17% from three. They didn’t find themselves at the foul line often and shot 2-3.

The Aggies start March with an away game against Conference USA leader Louisiana Tech on March 5, then travel to Huntsville, TX to take on Sam Houston in the regular season finale on March 7. At this point, it is not likely that the Aggies will advance to the CUSA tournament in Huntsville, AL.
The Gamecocks have one game left at home vs. Kennesaw State on March 7. They will be competing in the CUSA tournament, as they find themselves in the middle of conference standings.
