A  new semester has began at NMSU, every aspect of student life, culture, and experience are reinvigorated in anticipation for a productive year.  One of the most central components to the function of student life is ASNMSU or the Associated Students of New Mexico State University.

ASNMSU, the elected government body for the students is comprised of students from each college.  The number of senators for each college is determined proportionately by the number of students enrolled in a particular college relative to the total student population of the University.  Those elected vote on legislation that impacts the student life on campus.

ASNMSU had their first meeting of the fall semester on Thursday, Aug. 24.

Dr. Timothy Ketelaar, the associate dean of the Honors College presented issues regarding a “Student Initiated Policy Revision for the Code of Conduct,” or in other terms, a revision to the Academic Misconduct Policy. According to Dr. Ketelaar, this proposed revision will be similar to that of Oklahoma State Universities Academic Misconduct Policy.

Senate then moved on to receive a report from the Director of Activities, Donovan Olvera.  Mr. Olvera’s job is to coordinate activities for the student body to partake in.  During his presentation, Mr. Olvera highlighted the success of the Welcome Back Concert and the Aggie Carnival.

On the topic of activities on campus, Director of Public Relations, Luis Terrazas displayed the current design for homecoming 2017.

The Senate is comprised of hard working individuals, dedicated to serving the student population of NMSU.
