The Las Cruces Police Department is investigating a double shooting at Whiskey Dicks bar early morning Sunday, Nov. 8. They released a statement to the public the following Monday afternoon asking witnesses to send any videos they have to help in the investigation.
The shooting resulted in the death of Javier Velasquez, 28, and the injury of Gabriel Lucero, 37, who is now in pPolice custody.
Just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning, Las Cruces police and fire departments responded to reports of shots being fired in the parking lot.
Police reports say the two men were involved in a physical confrontation. Lucero allegedly armed himself and shot Velasquez. An unnamed person then shot Lucero.
Both victims were transported to local hospitals. Velasquez succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and Lucero remains hospitalized and in custody.
Police are still trying to identify the person who shot Lucero.
