The Las Cruces police are asking for help from the public investigating a shooting that killed one person and injured three others at a house party on Bugatti Drive, Saturday night, Nov. 15.
According to a press release from LCPD, officers were dispatched at 11:46 p.m. Saturday night after receiving multiple reports of gunshots.
Upon arrival, police found 21-year-old Lance Chavez who had been shot at least once. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 19-year-old man was transported to a local hospital and two women, 18 and 17-years-old, were transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center. The injuries to the teenagers were not believed to be life threatening, police said.
Detectives are still trying to understand what led to the shooting. They are asking witnesses to send videos to the police department to be used as evidence in the ongoing investigation. Investigators believe such videos will be crucial to identifying suspects, the police said.
Videos can be submitted through the evidence submission portal. Police ask anyone with information to contact Las Cruces police at 575-526-0795 or share tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Las Cruces and Dona Ana County at 1-800-222-8477.
Update: On Tuesday, Nov. 18, police arrested a 16-year-old in connection with the shooting and charged him with one count of murder and three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Because of his age, police say they are not publicly identifying him.
