The New Mexico State baseball team looked to get back to their winning ways after struggling against No. 19 Oregon last weekend, and managed to, picking up a 10-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader against No. 24 Sacramento State after falling in the opener 10-5.

In the first game of the day, New Mexico State (11-15, 9-5 WAC) came out swinging, as they got up 4-0 over the first three innings thanks to Ethan Mann and Cal Villareal RBIs and a Mann double homer, but the Hornets would explode from the plate from the fourth inning on, scoring four runs there and three in both the fifth and the sixth to take control of the game. Unable to amount any type of comeback, the Aggies managed just one more run before going down in seven.

The Aggies had no problem connecting with the ball, out-hitting Sac State in that department (10 to 9 respectively), but stranded runners and struggles from the mound against an effective Hornets lineup would prove fatal.

The second game stated out just as strong for NM State, getting on the scoreboard first with a single from Kevin Jimenez, who was then brought home on a double from Mann who drove in two more.

Keeping the momentum going, the Aggies quickly loaded the bases in the second, setting up for Brandon Dieter to bring in two more runners on a single into left field. Still in the second the Aggies got another score after getting walked with bases loaded, now brining the score to 5-0.

The Aggies could not stop scoring and got another RBI off a Tommy Tabak double. While staying on a roll on the offensive side NMSU has outscored the Hornets 6-0 in just three innings.

In the fifth New Mexico State added more injury to insult as they got two more RBIs on a Dieter dribble. In the same inning, the Hornets finally got something going and got a score on a Steven Moretto homer that sailed over the left field fence.

After Sacramento State finally got themselves on the board, the game entered the sixth inning with the Aggies in the lead 9-1.

In the later innings both teams added on a score, with the result pretty much a formality at that point. Staying strong and holding on to their lead NM State won game two of the double header 10-2, evening out the series 1-1 and setting up for an important back half of the matchup as the Aggies push to get back to .500.

You can catch game three of the series tomorrow on the WAC Digital Network at 4:00 P.M.
